INFO*FLEX is taking place May 7-8 here in Montréal, QC, Canada.

OpenRIP Flexo, now featuring support for the new Adobe PDF Print Engine, is based on the award-winning OpenRIP series. OpenRIP Flexo brings new levels of workflow automation with a wide range of feature and performance enhancements designed to increase prepress production and accuracy.

OpenRIP Flexo with SmartDieTM performs all the repetitive and tedious work of preparing files for output by automatically applying step and repeat, distortion, bearer bars and traps to suit a wide variety of production needs. OpenRIP Flexo allows prepress operators to focus on preparing artwork in a simple, one-up workflow.

Long Record of Success in Flexo

Xanté RIPit was one of the first to offer third-party RIP solutions to the printing industry. In 1992, RIPit developed the “AlanRIP” for Alan Graphics, a full function die database, with full distortion in a flexographic software Raster Image Processor. OpenRIP Flexo Feature Highlights

Die Database and SmartDie Functionality

The primary feature of OpenRIP Flexo is its exclusive Die Database which allows users to create, edit and store custom die templates to suit an unlimited amount of production scenarios. Users may specify step and repeat settings, apply bearer bars and automatically calculate and apply the correct distortion value instantly and accurately eliminating costly human errors.

The Die Database is centrally located within the workflow, where users can quickly select and apply the correct die for specific jobs, batch process a group of jobs, or use SmartDie feature and let OpenRIP Flexo automatically apply the correct die needed. If your job specifications change, assign a different Die from the Die Database, or customize settings on the fly. Other features include Stagger and Double Burn Overlapping Objects for added flexibility.

In-RIP Trapping with TrapZoneTM – built in Adobe In-RIP Trapping and enhanced with RIPit’s TrapZone technology which allows users to select regions through Monitor Preview with different trap settings. Simply re-preview the job to apply and view changes.

Multi-Stage Proofing
Open RIP Flexo offers a variety of proofing solutions designed to help users to catch file and setup problems before they become expensive mistakes:

  • Monitor Preview – check page elements, colors, traps, knockouts, over-prints and step & repeat templates (in composite and separated modes), before output of a proof or media.
  • RasterView – lets users examine a RIPped file at the dot level. View trapping, screen angles, frequencies, and tint values.
  • Color Mapping Control – automatically combines spot colors which use the same number and ends in “CVC”, “CV”, “CVU”, etc… Users can also edit a file’s colors, combine colors or simply turn specific colors off.
  • ExportProof – save raster files as PDFs, TIFFs and JPEGs to preview at workstations or E-mail directly to customers.
  • KoolKolorTM Proofing – create color accurate proofs from a variety of inkjet printers and plotters. Select ICC profiles as well as destination profiles for a proof that simulates the final printed product.
  • Advanced Proof – this versatile color control technology gives users the power to print and continue any combination of colors, or assign new colors to satisfy client changes. Editing tools allow color changes to specified percentages to rude tonal values. Die lines or key lines can be also printed separately on inkjet film as an overlay.
  • KoolToningTM Halftone Simulator – get inkjet proofs with the actual halftone dots and screen angles that are specified for the job. CMYK and Spot colors show with the actual screening algorithm and line screen.
  • Device & Image Quality Control  – OpenRIP Flexo can directly drive over one hundred imagesetters, platesetters and plotters. With PS-Out and TIFF-Out features, OpenRIP Flexo allows users to print to many more Postscript output devices.
  • RIP-Integrated Color Management – allows OpenRIP Flexo to honor embedded color profiles, and lets users select source and destination profiles to be used during interpretation.
  • Screening Technologies — OpenRIPt Flexo offers a variety of screening solutions specifically designed for Flexo presses including: Adobe® Accurate Screens, Agfa® Balanced Screening for Flexo (with true round dots) and RIPit’s PerfectBLENDTM Flexo hybrid screening. PerfectBLEND combines the benefits of AM and FM Screening for higher linescreens, smoother gradients and cleaner press runs.
  • Linearization & Dot Gain Compensation – easy to use wizards lets users precisely calibrate its imagesetter and fingerprint its pres. Create a profile of every press and job scenario for better color control and job consistency.
