Can I run film or plates from the cassette tray?

No. Film or any non-paper media must feed through the manual feed tray.  The cassette tray is for standard size paper only (Letter, Tabloid, etc.).

How can I fix incorrect or inconsistent line lengths on my output?

Engine tolerances for this printer are plus or minus 2 mm. XANTÉ's patented X-ACT, and More X-ACT calibrations correct for inconsistent line lengths and skew and should allow you to get your line lengths under control.

 

  • Print an X-ACT test page from the front panel (Setup - Graphic - X-ACT).

  • Using the Xante X-ACT ruler - measure the lines on the test page.

  • If your measurements are off by more than .5 mm, you can make corrections from the front panel.

 

You can further adjust your output with More X-ACT. 4 and 5 Series printers can use their web browser. 3 Series printers will need to use Xante Command Center to utilize this feature.

How can I increase the density for my clear/matte film?

There are several ways to increase density:

  • Increase the DENSITY DIAL located to the inside left of manual feed tray

  • Increasing the DENSITY setting for FILM under the MEDIA (located on front panel for 3 Series or on internal web browser for 4/5 Series)

  • Adjust EP1 setting for FILM to find the best setting for your environment

  • Shake imaging unit to redistribute toner or replace if near end of life

  • Process film using the XANTÉ FilmStar 4 unit

How do I access the internal web page for my printer when my network uses a firewall?

FIREFOX:
Locate the IP address of your printer (shown on the startup page or configuration page)
Open Firefox;
MAC OSX - Go to the File menu and select Preferences
WINDOWS - Go to the Tools menu and select Options
Click the Advanced (gear icon) across the top of the window
Select the Network tab and click the Settings button
Type the IP address of the printer into the field labeled "No proxy for:"
Click ok, restart FireFox and type the printer IP address to access the internal web page.


SAFARI (Mac OS)
Locate the IP address of your printer (shown on the startup page or configuration page)

Open Safari; Go to the File menu and select Preferences
Click the Advanced (gear icon) across the top of the window

Locate Proxies and select Change Settings; this will open the Network preferences

Type the IP address of the printer into the field labeled "Bypass proxy settings for these Hosts & Domains:"

Click Apply Now, restart Safari and type the printer IP address to access the internal web page.


INTERNET EXPLORER (Windows)
Locate the IP address of your printer (shown on the startup page or configuration page)

Open Internet Explorer; Go to the Tools menu and select Internet Options
Select the Connections tab and click the LAN Settings button
Under the Proxy Settings area; click the Advanced button

Type the IP address of the printer into the field labeled "Exceptions"

Click ok, restart Internet Explorer and type the printer IP address to access the internal web page.

I am getting tear drops on my output, what is this and how can this be corrected?

This is caused when arcing occurs across the surface of the toner drum.

 

To correct this, pull the toner cartridge from the printer and:

 

  • Check the metal contacts on the left side of the printer. Make sure that they are not laying flat.

  • On the right side, following the guide for the toner you will notice another contact, which is the ground. Make sure that it is able to make contact with the toner. Gently pull this out to ensure contact.

  • The Bias Transfer Roller (BTR) behind the toner drum is black and spongy. It has two beige handles. Make sure that you can push this down and it springs back into place. Check both ends to ensure each springs back. You may need to take this roller out and clean it. Make sure that you get it seated properly.

  • Finally, try replacing the toner cartridge itself.

 

On occasion, the sides of the toner cartridge not making good contact can also cause the problem. If the problem is still occurring, the EP setting may need adjustment. Please contact Tech Support if you are not familiar with performing this adjustment.

Is DHCP supported?

DHCP is standard on Series 4/5 and available for Series 3 using ROM v 4.01-4 or higher.

My output is not dark enough. How can I adjust the density?

Adjust the density for the media type on which you are printing, using the front panel under SETUP: MEDIA.

 

The toner cartridge also may be getting close to end of life; if so, replacing the toner cartridge should help to resolve the issue.

What do I do if the output on my printer is skewed?

Skew can be caused by the way the media is fed through the printer.

 

  • Check to see if the skew occurs from all trays or only one tray. If it only occurs from a single tray, then observe the pickup rollers and see if they are causing the media to be fed through the printer at an angle.

  • Make sure that the media is aligned properly when loaded in the tray.

 

If the problem occurs from all trays, perform X-ACT calibration which corrects for skew.

What is a E:FUSER error and how can I correct the problem?

E:FUSER is displayed when the temperature sensor inside the fuser does not read the correct temperature (too high or too low).

  • Turn off the printer for 30 minutes to allow fuser to cool and restart.

  • If not corrected - reset the printer by holding ONLINE and TRAY SELECT on the front panel during startup (when the black bars start across the screen for Series 4). It should display RESET if done properly.

  • If not corrected - replace the fuser unit.

What is a E:SCANNER error and how can I correct it?

E:SCANNER is displayed when the laser unit is not level, a bad connection is detected by the sensor or the scanner motor has stopped moving.

  • Turn off the printer for 30 minutes and restart.

  • If not corrected - reset the printer by holding ONLINE and TRAY SELECT keys in the front panel during startup (when the black bars start across the screen on Series 4). It should display RESET if done properly.

  • If not corrected - replace the imaging unit/toner.

  • If not corrected - contact Technical Support.

What protocols are supported on the printer?

TCP/IP, Ethertalk. USB is supported, but only on Windows 2000 and XP.

Why can I not print from my Windows PC, after I have configured my printer for TCP/IP?

The problem is either a physical connection or configuration issue.

 

  1. First, verify that the printer's parameters are properly configured. This includes:

    • a valid IP address

    • the same subnet mask as is used on the PC, and in some cases, a valid default gateway.

    • If these values are entered manually instead of through DHCP, then the DHCP setting on the printer must be turned off in order for the settings to apply.

  2. Make sure the printer has been rebooted after changing IP parameters.

  3. Once you are certain that the printer has been properly configured, try "PINGing" the printer from the PC.

    • If the PING is successful then IP communication has been established and an LPR port needs to be configured to allow printing to an IP address.

    • If the PING is not successful, and you are certain that the printer's IP parameters are properly configured, then you must check the physical connection. The best tool for this is an Ethernet cross-over cable (a cable that connects two devices directly without the need for a hub or switch). Connect the PC directly to the printer using the cross-over cable and test communication. If no communication can be established using the cable or the main network, and the PC can communicate with other devices via Ethernet, then the printer's Ethernet interface has failed. Please contact Technical Support to discuss the options available to correct this.

Why can I not print on media larger than legal size at 1200 DPI?

You either do not have INSTALLED RAM configured correctly under the INSTALLED OPTIONS or you do not have enough physical memory to print at that resolution. The physical memory is displayed on your Startup Page.

  • Printing up to legal size at 1200 dpi requires 32 MB of RAM.

  • Printing up to 13" x 18.5" at 1200 dpi requires 128 MB of RAM.

  • Printing up to 13" x 35.5" at 1200 dpi requires 128 MB of RAM.

Why does my IP address keep changing?

DHCP may not be setup to assign addresses correctly which will reassign the IP address each time you restart your printer. We recommend you set a static IP address to avoid the problem.

Why does my media always pull from the manual feed tray?

The manual feed tray is likely set as the default tray or you are using a custom page size.

  • Check the default tray on the front panel. Press TRAY SELECT. If MANUAL FEED is displayed, press TRAY SELECT again until CASSETTE is shown.

  • Check the default paper source in your printer driver. Select PRINT, then click PROPERTIES to make sure MANUAL FEED is not selected.

  • All CUSTOM sizes will default to the manual feed tray. The cassette tray is for standard paper sizes only (Letter, Tabloid, etc).

Why does the front panel display LOW PAPER when there is paper in the cassette tray?

LOW PAPER is displayed when there are fewer than 100 sheets (using 75 gsm) in the cassette tray.

  • It does not prevent printing, but you should keep the cassette tray at least 3/4 full or turn off the SOFT ERROR detection.

  • SOFT ERROR on Series 4/5 is located under the UTILITY menu on the front panel.

  • SOFT ERROR on Series 3 is located under the MISC menu on the front panel.

Why is my output printing to the left and towards the bottom of the page?

The printer is formatting the page for the wrong size media.

 

To remedy this, adjust the paper guides in the tray and make sure that the pointers on the guides are in the correct position. To test, press ONLINE, TEST, ONLINE to print out a startup page.

Why is the 1200 / 2400 DPI option grayed out?

Verify that the INSTALLED RAM and RESOLUTION under the INSTALLED OPTIONS matches the physical configuration displayed on the Startup Page.
