SAFARI (Mac OS) Locate the IP address of your printer (shown on the startup page or configuration page) Open Safari; Go to the File menu and select Preferences Click the Advanced (gear icon) across the top of the window Locate Proxies and select Change Settings; this will open the Network preferences Type the IP address of the printer into the field labeled “Bypass proxy settings for these Hosts & Domains:” Click Apply Now, restart Safari and type the printer IP address to access the internal web page.

INTERNET EXPLORER (Windows) Locate the IP address of your printer (shown on the startup page or configuration page) Open Internet Explorer; Go to the Tools menu and select Internet Options Select the Connections tab and click the LAN Settings button Under the Proxy Settings area; click the Advanced button Type the IP address of the printer into the field labeled “Exceptions” Click ok, restart Internet Explorer and type the printer IP address to access the internal web page.

If the printer is connected parallel, the printer will print a network configuration page upon power up. If the printer is connected over a network, the configuration page can be printed by pressing the TEST button located underneath the network interface.

When selecting the multipurpose tray in the PPD, be sure to select multipurpose tray and not manual feed. Manual feed is for printing one-page jobs only (such as labels). The printer will go offline after every manual feed job.

These threads are sometimes called shredded output and spider webbing. The fibers are not sticky and are a mixture of the same color being printed on the page. In certain cases, the fibers will be attached to a large clump of fused toner on the page. To alleviate this problem, first make sure the correct media weight setting is selected in the driver. It is very important that you don’t set the media weight too high or too low in the driver. If you are running very thin stock (less than 20 lb paper), setting the media weight too high can cause severe curling, jams, and sometimes browning, due to the heat of the fuser at that higher setting. If the media weight is set too low (eg. you are running 110 lb index via the manual feed), then the toner is not going to fuse properly and the toner will tend to smear down the page, producing threading. To recover the fuser if threading happens, run 50 blank sheets through the printer using the same media and the correct media weight setting. If the threading problem still exists, run another 50 sheets and increase the media weight one setting higher in the driver. Here are some suggested media weights (both Macintosh and Windows drivers): Light (less than 16 lb); Medium-Light (17-19 lb); Medium (20-24 lb)*; Medium-Heavy (25-27 lb)*; Heavy (28-32 lb); Ultra-Heavy (33-54 lb); Labels1 (.1-.17 mm); Labels2 (.17-.2 mm); Transparency (standard heat-resistant type). *Note for those with the duplexer: these are the only two media weights supported for duplex printing.

In the PPD, ensure that Black Finish is set to Matte. This will print 100 percent black for the text but leave the graphics as they are.

Even though the paper may be 20 lb bond, if the file is full color or has a lot of color the Media setting in the PPD should be set to Medium-Heavy or Heavy. This will prevent the paper jamming and the toner will fuse properly.

Select the desktop printer, and increase memory from 330 KB to 2048 KB. This increase in memory allocation for the desktop printer allows larger jobs to be spooled faster, resulting in a faster print time.

Postscript CRD color management must be enabled on the CL21 and the duotone must be saved using an embedded CRD via Photoshop. There are three color management settings on the CL21 in the driver: No color management, Printer Unique Color Management and Postscript CRD Color Management. Select Postscript CRD Color Management. When saving .eps duotones in Photoshop 5.5 and 6.0, select the option for “Postscript Color Management.” You only see this box when you save the file as an .eps. This will not work if the duotone is saved as any other format because there is no way to embed a CRD using other file formats.

The LED lens on the top cover is dirty. When the top door is opened, always wipe the LED lens with a non-abrasive, lint-free cloth.

The controller board is not seated properly. Reseat the controller board and tighten the thumb screws. This should resolve the issue.
